For my infographic, I explored the effects that social media has on mental health of social media users, specifically teenagers/millennials. I mainly focus on the negative effects and provide evidence in the form of graphs, charts, and statistics. I took advantage of the symbolic aspect of infographics and mimicked different modes of social media and displayed the different statistics in the form of social media. For example, I started with a messaging app to define the issue and its importance and exigence. Next, I portrayed quotes from notable, credible sources in the form of make-shift tweets. After that, I created a chart that describes the different uses of social media that mimics a YouTube video clip. I then include many statistics about the increase in social media use and cyberbullying. These statistics are portrayed in the form of a Facebook poll. Finally, I conclude my infographic on a positive, “what can we do” note. I created two Instagram screen caps, one with negative comments and one with positive comments. This way, although I am persuading the negative effects of social media on mental health, I am emphasizing that there is still a way to use social media in a positive way.
